While most of the regulated professions can be found on our list of regulated professions, some are not part of the same framework for professional recognition. If you are uncertain of the procedures to be followed, you can contact the Danish Agency for Universities and Internationalisation.
Professions with restricted access
For some professions, the possibilities for gaining access on the basis of foreign qualifications are limited. If the profession involves carrying out a governmental function, Danish nationality may also be a requirement. These professions are not covered by any European, Nordic or bilateral agreements on professional recognition. This is the case of, among others:
- Judge – Danish Ministry of Justice
- Police – Danish National Police
- Priest – Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs
Professions governed by international sectoral agreements
In other regulated professions, access is possible on the basis of foreign qualifications, but under special sectoral rules, such as international conventions, EU rules or Danish legislation.

- Lawyer providing services under home State professional title – The Danish Ministry of Justice
- Train Driver (Lokomotivfører) – Danish Transport Authority
Road transport:
- Bus/Coach Operator (Busvognmand) – Danish Transport Authority
- Bus Contractor (Busudlejer) – Danish Transport Authority
- International bus driving, commercial driving abroad (EU licence and shuttle service) – Danish Transport Authority
- International haulage using lorries registered in Denmark – Danish Transport Authority
- Regular traffic (Rutekørsel) in Denmark – Danish Transport Authority
- Road haulage of dangerous goods in Denmark – Danish Emergency Management Agency
- Haulage Contractor (Godsvognmand – godskørsel for fremmed regning) – Danish Transport Authority
- Haulage Contractor – business registration – Danish Commerce and Companies Agency
- Taxi Driver (Taxichauffør)
- Taxicab Owner (Taxivognmand)
Maritime transport:
- See Captain (Søkaptajn) – Danish Maritime Authority
- Merchant marine occupations, including Chief Engineer, First Officer, Shipmaster, Marine Engineer, Ship's Cook, Seaman and Motorman etc. – Danish Maritime Authority
- Aviation, including Cabin Crew Member (Kabinebesætningsmedlem), Pilot (Pilot), Air Traffic Controller (Flyleder), Aviation Technician (Flytekniker), Flight Dispatcher (Flyveklarerer) etc. – Danish Transport Authority
